Arroz con Pollo

Cover and back for buddy's mixtape... The A.V.E!  Great local talent. When he becomes famous, maybe I can ride in his plane.

Peg Men

Users of Google's Street View feature (on Google Maps) might be familiar with "Pegman," the yellow icon who appears on the street to guide you through the mapped world. On holidays and special occasions, Google has been known to put out special Pegmen for users to find. For example, you can find some at LEGOLAND and Whistler for the Vancouver Olympic games.

Anyway, here are some of the Pegmen I've done.

**Note: Big thanks to Brad "The Beard" Bossard for modeling the base for #6 aka US Open Peg (and the 3D for ALL the other Pegmen) and Ryan "George Lucas" Germick for designing the original Pegman!!!

I need a montage

I love sketches! Sometimes I feel they can capture what hours of painting cannot...

Come hither / stay there.

Character sketch. I haven't decided if she summoning or pointing. Maybe both. I am having fun playing with the dress shape. I'm toying with the idea of a wider cloth shape instead of the tapering fabric-tentacles. We'll see.

Also, a glowing hand might make for a more interesting image... give her a bit more mysticism, eh? Heh.

Ill Meds

Here's a small sampling from the book I illustrated. It finally came out! Many thanks to Dr. Kelly Traver.

Check it out HERE!

Hit Me Again, Ike

Illustration I'm currently working on for a soon-to-be-released project. I'll show a little process here, and we'll see how it turns out (hopefully sweet). I usually like to put the scanned sketch on a "multiply" layer so my color layers don't have to be.

The Beardmaster

A Secret Santa gift that I finally finished! Hey, better late Santa than never. 'Twas inspired by the recipient's bearded likeness.

I sketched digitally first then printed out the rough and lightboxed over it for the final in pencil. This was a good process, I'll probably use it again soon. It's too bad beards itch, they are pretty sweet.

SPIDER-MAN BRAINSSSS

Just let Bender wet his beak...

1950s era robot sketch for small Google project. Trying to keep it simple for ease of cardboard construction later on. On a related note, Futurama is still hilarious.

Poseidon look at me

Speed painting from a statue of Poseidon (I think) displayed in the Bargello in Florence. I might work on it some more... I'm trying to liven up my sketches a bit, being that I always like to see loose sketches from other artists.

Red Scarfing

More experimenting with selective color/layer options. Beware the night pigeon, deadliest of all birds.

Kickin it old school

I was in a "fix-it" mood today, so I found an old drawing and threw some crap on it. This is how it turned out.

Appaloombic

I finally finished the medical book I've been working on. Hopefully it will look decent in print. Either way, the good news is that I now have time to work on all those personal projects that were put on the back burner!

A while ago I watched the movie Appaloosa and was impressed with its simplistic greatness. Ed Harris and Viggo were perfect. If you like westerns, I highly recommend it. Anyway, this one shot in the movie really caught my eye, so I whipped up my interpretation of it, a la Photoshop & Painter.

In closing, I give you: The Limbic System (unused sketch from the book)

Watchmen! ...and Venom?

I had an hour to kill waiting in line to see WATCHMEN, so I whipped up some sketches, only 2 of which I liked. The guy in front of me was holding his girlfriend's purse for such a long time, I thought he deserved to be documented. On a related note, WATCHMEN was great. I'm a big fan of the book (along with everyone else who has actually read it) and the film did not disappoint, remaining quite faithful to the graphic novel masterpiece that is WATCHMEN. The female lead would have rang truer with a different actress, but that was my only gripe. I'll be interested to see the audience reaction for non-Alan Moore fans, however...
